As some of you may know, I am a vegetarian. I have no problem with people eating meat, it is the order of things. Eat drink and be merry. Fair enough. Humans eat meat, we are designed that way. So keep doing it. I just choose not to. Can't handle the guilt, but that's just me. Anyway, your probably wandering what this has to do with ants. Well I'll get to it in a moment. Be patient. This deranged rant/ramble may just be worth it. Anyway, I don't eat meat but it's perfectly natural to and I have to say if, and only if, I was in some sort of plane crash in the Andies or a surviver of a world wide holocost or natural disaster (polar shift 2012 etc) and it came down to me dying and or eating rabbit (well actually where I live it would probably be cat or dog) stew and surviving, then all bets are off, back to the natural order of things. I'm not adverse to that kind of things it's survival. Fair play. But as we live in a society where we can survive without it, why not.

The thing that bothers me is the needless killing of animals, insects, ants (told you) and things for no real reason. Swat the fly, squish the spider, it's only a bug kind of attitude really gets me down. It's needless. If your not going to eat it. Don't kill it. An example: Some of you may be thinking, but spiders are rank, they scare me, their horrible. Well I'll let you in on something. I'm scared of spiders, I'd go as far as to say I can't stand them. But I don't kill them because they have little nutrietinal value and I wouldn't eat it anyway.

Ok so I'm rambling now. I'll get to the point. This needless death, freaks me out somewhat. Example: Ants are tiny insignificant creatures (we'll ignore their part in the great cycle of interwoven dependence of all life thing for now, that's a whole other blog and would take forever). But look at us for a second.

Right now you are sat at your computer, reading this. You are in your house, which is in your street, which is in your town, which is in your country, all of which is on the surface of this planet, which I'm sure you think is quite a big place. But lets put it into perspective. Our planet is part of the solar system, which is on the outer 'arm' of a spiral galaxy called the milky way and this is billions and billions of light years wide, deep and long. That milkly way is just one galaxy of billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and... well you get the point.

So what it boils down to is you are essentially a microscopic bald monkey (with delusions or grandeour) on a spec of dust in a vast expanse of void filled with billions upon billions of other specks of dust flying around in it at a gazillion miles a second (perhaps we're all falling down a hole? mmm? who knows?).

When you look at it in context we are very very very very small, a bit like an ant, for an example you understand. But and heres the killer of it all, despite our relative minisculeness to all that surrounds and our microscopic place in the grand scheme of things, we can still comprehend and try to understand it all.

Prove to me that an ant cannot do that.

Prove to me that an ant can't wonder about the why and how of the universe as it does it's day to day tasks. 'oh but Dr they're ants they just do ant things, they just fly on automatic they're programmed to do the same things everyday, there's no mind there!' Well look at yourself for a moment. You get up, you eat, you drive/walk/get the bus to work, probably the same way everyday, you get to work and you do the same tasks everyday and then you drive/walk/get the bus home at night. The next day is much the same, and the day after that and the day after that and... All those days, do you think the same thing everyday? Didn't think so.

You see where I'm going right? We're just in a different colony. A 'bigger' one with a different animal on the same spec of dust.

Tell me an ant doesn't mull over the why and how of the universe. Can you tell me 100%? Can you tell me how the human brain really does what it does? No one can really. they can't tell you with 100% certainty how our brains work. They can't tell you how an ant brain works either, because you can't get inside an ants brain to see what they're thinking.

So that in a nutshell is why i don't kill ants, because for all any of us a know they are just as smart, if not smarter, than us. So leave them bee... that may be another blog I'm getting into...

Peace yall x
